The Minescope Project is a tool for consulting and storing images of minerals in thin section observed through the petrographic microscope. It is developed by two students along with the Department of Geology of the “Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona” as a project of final degree and teaching innovation. It constitutes the database of the mobile application “Minescope” that simulates the visualization and allows the identification of minerals in thin section, based on its optical properties. The database contains a compilation of photographs that show the variation of minerals properties by rotating 360° with respect to the incident light of the microscope. The project includes different minerals, the most abundant rock formers and the main metal types. It contains more than one set of images of the most important minerals, so that a general but at the same time specific view of each of them is achieved. |
